Murphysboro, Illinois - August 30, 2010. Elm Street Baptist Church celebrated the opening of its new Family Life Center by having a dedication day this past Sunday, August 29. Located at 1907 Elm Street, Elm Street Baptist Church services were conducted at regular worship hours with a special luncheon celebrating the opening.
Pastor Charles Allen stated, "Elm Street Baptist Church decided many years ago to be a body of believers whose greatest desire was, and still is, to impact the community of Murphysboro and the surrounding region by sharing the life-changing message of Jesus Christ. The construction of our family life center will open up new opportunities and avenues of ministry that will enable us to better fulfill our calling."
Comprising 7,052 Sq, Ft., the new addition includes a gymnasium/fellowship hall, kitchen with service areas and additional classroom room space.
Bill Baskin, Chairman of the church’s capital campaign, deacon and long time member, said "A true church of God must always be energetically futuristic. We must reach new people for Jesus Christ"
The church embarked on the fund raising campaign in November of 2004 and has received an extraordinary out pouring of support from its membership, raising over half the funds required for the addition and renovation.
With an emphasis on always planning for the future for the glory of Jesus Christ, Pastor Charles Allen is excited about Elm Street Baptist being ready for "the next great task that God will call the church to do."
Nicole Griswold, Director of Children & Youth Ministries said, "The Family Life Center will be a vital tool for us, as we work to provide new ministries for teens and children in our community."
Elm Street Baptist Church was established in 1933 during the great depression. Ground breaking on the existing auditorium began on May 27, 1947 with the corner stone set July 20, 1947. The first service was held on December 31, 1947. The existing education wing was constructed in 1960 with the existing auditorium renovation completed in May of 1998. Continuing its need to upgrade and expand, the church renovated the Children’s Sunday School and Worship area in the fall of 2007 and most recently added a new accessible entrance ramp and canopy in 2008.

DU QUOIN - Officials with Marshall Browning Hospital and Morgan Commercial Structures plan to open the doors of the hospital's newest facility to the public later this month.
The two organizations will host an open house and ribbon cutting event Sunday for the newly constructed medical office building at the entryway of the hospital campus, directly across from the hospital's new certified helipad.
"We are proud to offer this new facility to our community," CEO William Huff said in a news release. "The primary focus of this project was to meet the needs of our patients, their families and to enhance support to our growing physician practice."
The 6,000-square foot facility includes 12 examination rooms, two treatment rooms, a large waiting room, reception area and physician and staff offices. The interior design promotes efficiency in the physicians' practice, as well as patient convenience, Huff said.
Three of four available physician offices in the new facility are filled, and Huff said he hopes the building will help attract another physician to the area. Terrence Hall, general surgeon; Hassan Jafri, family practice; and Gladstone Tucker, internal medicine, will be housed in the new building.
"Our physicians and staff are so pleased and excited to offer healthcare services to our community in this new state-of-the-art facility," said Lindy Armstrong, clinic office manager. "The physicians and clinic staff welcome the community to explore compassionate care, close to home."
